Rolling Meadows began as an unincorporated subdivision in 1953 when developer Kimball-Hill promoted a vision for industrial and residential expansion. As the demand for strength in government increased, so did the need for incorporation as a city. In 1955 incorporation was official, and the city began to grow and prosper. Today Rolling Meadows is among the most appealing suburbs in the Chicagoland area.

Schools
Rolling Meadows is primarily served by elementary District 15, but some students attend District 54 schools. Most teenagers attend Rolling Meadows High School district 214, which has an average ACT composite score of 21.6. Others attend Fremd High in District 211, which has an ACT score of 23.9.  William Rainey Harper Community College and area universities are nearby. Clearbrook Center for the Handicapped is located here.

Transportation
Convenient access to the city and suburbs is right at the edge of town where I-90 and Illinois 53 intersect, connecting drivers with all major arteries. Metra commuter trains reach the city in 30 minutes from the local station. Location is ideal for all forms of transportation. Commuters catch the Union Pacific train in Arlington Heights or Palatine. A trip to the Loop takes 39 minutes express, and 52-60 minutes local.

Shopping
Assorted shopping complexes are dispersed throughout the town’s business district. Included are Rolling Meadows Plaza, Meadows Town Mall, Tin Cup Pass and Plum Grove among others. Woodfield Mall is just minutes away.

Recreation
The community center in Rolling Meadows offers activities for young and old including an indoor ice rink. olympic sized pool and a senior citizen’s league. The Sports Complex has a fitness center and a gym, while the Community Center is the site of the district's pre-school program and the senior center. The center sponsors activities, such as exercise classes, crafts and travel excursions. It also has a darkroom as well as a room for games, crafts, woodworking and cards.
